Stories in Action offers hands-on storytelling experiences where children create their own original stories, inspired by the natural world around them. These workshops show how storytelling can connect imagination, literacy, and environmental awareness in a way that feels playful, meaningful, and memorable.
Backyard Stories Workshop
(Two-Day School Programme)
This two-day workshop helps children discover that their school grounds are already full of stories - no school trip required.
Day One – Outside (School Grounds)
Young people explore outside and create their stories.
We explore and investigate the school's backyard: grass, trees, birds, insects, and quiet spaces.
Children observe, listen, imagine, and gather ideas
Students collect story seeds through drawing, discussion, and movement, and story ideas emerge.
Children turn their ideas into their own complete stories
The child creates a story in the same spirit as the books on the website
Focus on structure, rhythm, character, and straightforward storytelling, and the student's voice
Day Two – Inside (Classroom)
Young people edit their stories and share their stories.
Artwork and what's next.
This workshop:
Works with the entire class
Supports literacy, creativity, and environmental awareness
Builds confidence by showing children they already have stories worth telling
Requires no off-site trips - everything begins right where they are.
What Makes Stories in Action Different
Young people create their own story
Stories are authentic, personal, engaging and grounded in observation
Conservation themes arise naturally through curiosity, questions, storytelling, and discovery.
Children see how imagination can connect to care for the world around them and each other.
